About Pierre Kory, MD, MPA, CTP
Dr. Pierre Kory, former Chief of Critical Care Service at the University of Wisconsin, is a pioneering figure in critical care medicine. He revolutionized the field by helping establish ultrasound diagnostics as a standard practice in critical care, leading over 100 training courses nationally and internationally. He was also at the forefront of therapeutic hypothermia treatment for post-cardiac arrest patients. He established the first regular treatment program in New York City and was an expert panel member for the city's Project Hypothermia, creating cooling protocols across 44 regional hospitals.
A renowned educator and researcher, Dr. Kory has made significant contributions to critical care medicine through his groundbreaking work with Dr. Paul Marik on treating septic shock using high-dose intravenous ascorbic acid. His research was pivotal in identifying the crucial relationship between therapy initiation timing and survival rates in septic shock patients. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Kory emerged as a frontline leader, directing ICUs in multiple hotspots, including New York City, Greenville, South Carolina, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His expertise in COVID-19 treatment is reflected in his co-authorship of five influential papers on the disease, including pioneering work on early COVID-19 respiratory diagnosis.
